Iceland Trip (part 1 of 3)
14:20"Somewhere at the intersection of joy, fear, mystery, and insight lies awe, that ineffable response to the amazing world around us."
After spending eleven days in Iceland with the love of my life there is only one way I can describe my time there: M A G I C A L! Truly, It’s the most beautiful country I’ve ever visited! And I realise that this is a really bold statement but in my opinion it's true. Let me start off by saying this it's NOT a materialistic place. All of the beauty is found within nature, and created within your own experiences. Experiences are wonderful as they can’t be bought. I find it difficult to describe because I feel as if this is a place you have to go out and experience on your own. So if the chance presents itself, I strongly suggest you grasp that opportunity! I’ve decided to divide my time here into three different posts. This one in particular is going to be focusing on downtown Reykjavik.
I landed in Keflavik international airport at four in the morning. Naturally I was exhausted so I didn’t begin my day untill one (13:00) in the afternoon. I stayed at the 101 Hotel located in downtown Reykjavik for my first three nights. Here is where my boyfriend & I walked around and took in all the charm and character that downtown had to offer. Such as rows of cozy little cafes, boutiques, and theatres. I have to say I was impressed by how clean it was! And it’s also home to none other than the Icelandic Philological Museum, other wise known as the penis museum.
The first thing I realised after stepping out of my hotel was that I was freezing! It’s so important to dress in layers while here, in efforts to protect yourself from the cold. Obviously, the locals are experts at this and look fabulous while doing so. I on the other hand looked like a walking snowwoman, or at least that’s what I felt like! Another thing I quickly realised after walking around was how expensive everything is here. While the flight to Iceland itself is cheap, the trip here won’t be. What I mean is that you’ll end up spending the most over hotels, rental cars, food, etc. Even though many currencies are valued much higher, don’t expect that to play in your favour here.
On my second day in Iceland I woke up to a scrumptious plate of pancakes. And went to bed with a cup of hot chocolate followed by Northern Lights. I was getting ready for bed when my boyfriend pointed out he saw somwthing outisde. We opened up the window and to our surprise there they were the Aurora Borealis or "Northern Lights." I was so overjoyed that I wasn't able to capture the moment with my camera. (I know, I'm still annoyed at myself for that) But for next time the goal is to capture it in a photo! My next post will be focusing more on scenic attractions I visited within the Golden Circle area. Now I usually post on Wednesdays, but since I missed my post last week I'm going to post twice this week to make up for it. My next post will be tommorow! Catch you all then x
