Iceland Trip Checklist

16:11

Hello everybody, Time for a quick pop quiz!

Question: Which european country has the longest life expectancy and had the first democratically elected female president???

A) Switzerland
B) Germany
C) Iceland
D) Ukraine

......... The correct answer is C) Iceland!
The first female president, Mrs. Vigdis Finnbogadottir was voted into office on June 29, 1980. She was the fourth president of the Republic of Iceland. I actually didn't know that myself so I found that to be really neat! Yet, another reason to admire Iceland. Now if any of you guys are thinking of planning a trip over to Reykjavik then this post will be especially helpful to you! My boyfriend and I are currently planning our trip over ourselves, so I figured I'd share it with you guys. Let me know in the comments below if you found it useful or not, and also if you guys have already been I'd love to hear about your experiences as well! :-)

Ok, let's get started!!!

1) First things first, you want to book your flight.
  • We booked our flight from Boston direct to Reykjavik via Icelandic Air. The flight itself is only four and a half hours so it's not bad at all. Also, you might want to check out wow air, they also have flights to Reykjavik.
2) Book your hotel, car, & make sure meetings are scheduled properly.
  • We are staying at the Ion hotel, which is actually 40 minutes outside Reykjavik. But it's quite special because there is an incredibly unobstructed view of the Northern Lights! Not to mention, it's very close to the Golden Circle.
  • As for your vehicle rental, make sure you have a 4x4 vehicle. And for those who can't drive manual and want automatic, make sure to request it.
  • In our case we need to visit three banks, one accountant, and a Geothermal Research Facility. (I'm so excited about that last one!!!)
3) Be sure to plan your travel itinerary ahead of time.
  • This is so important because that way once you are there you don't have to waste any precious time figuring out what you're going to do. Instead you'll have a plan and be able to just jump right in and explore!
  • Be sure to buy your tickets to Blue Lagoon ahead of time! These actually sell out quite quickly, so you might want to do this before your trip or a couple days before. I wouldn't recommend waiting till the day of.
4) Make sure you are properly packed.
  • Iceland in the summer time is 55F at the highest. Keep in mind there are winds of 40 mph. So you can imagine how cold it gets in the winter time! 32F Ah yes, lucky me!
  • We made a trip over to our local sporting good's store and picked up water proof jackets, gloves, hats, & boots.
5) Have fun and be sure to take tons of photos!
  • Iceland is such a naturally beautiful country, you'll regret it if you don't take some amazing shots!
  • I'm actually planning to start up a Youtube channel & record an Iceland Vlog. Do you think this is something you guys would be interested in seeing?
